The hospital was founded in 1960 by inspired a group of devotees of Swami Chinmayananda who wished to dedicate their talents and resources in service of humanity.
The group hired a room in a slum area in Murphy Town, Bengaluru and started conducting a biweekly medical clinic for the poor and needy. When Swami Chinmayananda heard about the Murphy Town project and its volunteers, he decided to start a hospital, and the seed of Chinmaya Mission Hospital was sown.
Funds were collected, land purchased, construction planned and executed, and in 1970, Swami Chinmayananda officially inaugurated Chinmaya Mission Hospital (CMH) at Indira Nagar.
