Chinmaya Mission®, founded in 1953, is a worldwide organisation dedicated to the promotion of individual and societal happiness through spreading the universal teachings of Advaita Vedanta. The unique contribution of Chinmaya Mission is authentic, practical, and accessible communication of the priceless teachings of Vedanta to any and every seeker of truth regardless of race, religion, and station in life. This was the vision of its founder, Swami Chinmayananda, a modern Vedantic Master, who recognised the urgent need for disseminating the timeless wisdom of the rishis not just amongst scholars, but as a means to Self-discovery for individuals involved in the bustle of daily life. Just as the holy Ganges brings water from the rarified atmosphere of the Himalayas to nourish the seething populations of the plains and beyond, Chinmaya Mission’s core teaching program brings discourses and commentaries on the traditional scriptures of Hinduism: the Upanishads, the Brahmasutras and the Bhagavad Geeta to audiences everywhere. Chinmaya Mission, currently headed by Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati, now has more than 300 centres across 25 countries providing a wide range of spiritual, educational and charitable activities.
