Inspired to give
Sandeepany Sadhanalaya Vedanta institute in Mumbai was built entirely through funds collected at Swami Chinmayananda’s jnana yagnas and donations by devotees. Srimati Tara Swaroop donated 3 acres of land on top of a hill overlooking Powai lake in 1960. In December 1962, the Tara Cultural Trust was formed to oversee the project and in April 1963 the first training course was inaugurated at the ashram.
At that time, the ashram included a classroom, Saraswati Nilayam, along with a dining hall, kitchen, hostels and an Acharya cottage. In 1964, the foundation stone was laid for the now famous Jagadeeshwara temple right on top of the hill.

A defining feature of Sandeepany Sadhanalaya Mubai is its beautiful lush green setting. A haven of peace in a burgeoning metropolis, it is the very symbol of the role spiritual culture can play in maintaining a happy, dharmic life in the midst of materialism.
The gardens are home to many species of birds, monkies and reptiles and trees first planted in the 1960s now host thick vines and trailing flowers.
A pictorial depiction of the life and work of Swami Chinmayananda, Chinmaya Pradeep, enables visitors to gain insights into the vision and scope of his legacy.
A divine guide at Sandeep
Consecrated on 10 November, 1968, Jagadeeshwara temple opposite Swami Chinmayananda’s cottage is the focal point of Sandeepany. Worshippers climb marble stairs to enter through the imposing Jagadvara (temple gateway) before coming into the sublimely serene presence of a striking white marble meditating Lord Shiva. A benevolent black granite Nandi gazes at his Lord.
Lord Krishna as Venugopla sits on his right and Mother Ganga on his left, symbolized as a pot of water from the Ganges. A magnificent black granite Ganesha resides behind the sanctorum. Within the shrine, a Shiva lingam receives elaborate daily puja.
Jagadeeswara temple has become a place of worship, not just for the ashramites, but also for the surrounding community and Shivaratri night is a huge event at the ashram.
